Sandi Plummer

Sandi Plummer, PhD, psychologist and past academic at the University of Kansas and University of Canberra. Sandi was the Head of the Community Counselling Program at the University of Canberra for over 18 years and has been working in private practice for over 40 years. She has undertaken specialised training in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Cognitive and Behavioural Therapies, and Body Centred Therapies. She combines an in-depth knowledge of behavioural strategies with applied consideration of somatic issues and the need for a mindful, validating and compassionate response.  Sandi’s training in DBT includes two intensive trainings, a master class, several two day trainings,  training for working with adolescents and training in the use of DBT for Individuals with Substance Abuse Issues.  She undertook her original training with Dr Marsha Linehan, the developer of DBT. She has also developed a DBT module for working with Shame.  This module has been taught for the Canberra DBT Program

In the last 15 years, Sandi has been supporting the development of DBT in the Canberra Community,  through training of professionals and working with clients in therapy and advocacy.  She has also provided supervision for professionals implementing DBT programs in both NSW and the ACT, and continues to provide training and supervision within ACT Mental Health and Drug and Alcohol Services. Sandi currently specialises in issues of Complex Trauma, Self Harming and Personality Disorders.  She is working with individuals, particularly those meeting the diagnostic criteria for Borderline Personality Disorder with trauma histories.
